Sultan of Brunei to Visit Cambodia for Breakfast Meeting with Senate President Hun Sen

PHNOM PENH, April 29, 2024 — Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam is scheduled to make a brief visit to Cambodia early next week for a personal breakfast with Senate President Hun Sen.

Hun Sen shared on his official Facebook page this morning that the Sultan is expected to arrive on the evening of April 29. "I will personally welcome him at the airport and accompany him to his hotel," Hun Sen noted, recalling a similar courtesy extended to him by the Sultan during his visit to Brunei in 2011.

"The purpose of his visit is to come and have breakfast with me, whom he treats like a younger brother," Hun Sen explained. He described a fraternal bond among three leaders: "There are three brothers; the eldest is the Sultan of Brunei, the second is Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister of Thailand, and I'm the youngest."

The breakfast, set for April 30, will be a private affair without any official meetings. The Sultan will be accompanied by his son, Prince Mateen, while Hun Sen will be joined by his three sons – Hun Manet, Hun Manith, and Hun Many.

Following the breakfast, Hun Sen will escort the Sultan back to the airport for his departure.
